Aval oats idli is a variation of the normal idli. This is a tasty, healthy and quick recipe. It’s easy to prepare and all the ingredients are readily available in our homes.
I am an oats lover and always try different recipes with oats…..And this is one of them…
Now let’s not waste time and get started….

- 1 tsp. Fenugreek seeds
- ½ cup Oats
- ½ cup Aval (Poha)
- 1 tsp. Salt or as per taste
Method
- Soak rice and urad dal separately for 5 to 6 hours. Fenugreek seeds can be added along with urad dhal, which helps in fermentation.
- Soak oats and aval together half-an-hour to one hour before grinding.
- You can use mixie for grinding the ingredients. Grind urad dal and fenugreek to a soft paste first.
- Pour it into a container. Then grind rice, oats and aval together to a coarse paste.
- Mix all the paste together and keep it overnight or at least 8 hours for fermentation.
- After the batter is fermented, add salt and thoroughly mix the batter.
- Pour the idli batter into the idli moulds and steam as usual to make idlis.
- Serve with chutney / sambhar.
