Carrot Poori

CARROT POORI

Carrot poori, as the name suggests is made by adding carrot puree to the normal pooris. The pooris are colourful and taste delicious too. These pooris are quick and easy to make and will be loved by people of all age groups. Kids will definitely love it.  Also check out my earlier posts on other poori varieties like  mango poori and palak poori.

You can serve these pooris for lunch/dinner/breakfast with any curry of your choice. These pooris can be enjoyed with kadala curry or other side dishes. I prepared a simple potato masala as side dish because I love this combo of poori-masala. Jam or tomato ketchup also make an excellent combination with these pooris. You can also pair these pooris with jam or ketchup if you are lazy to prepare a curry….I love these with jam also. Yumm….Now let’s get back to the poori prep.

For tasty and delicious carrot poori, you will need…

Ingredients

  • 2 Carrots
  • ½ tbsp. Chilly Powder
  • ½ tbsp. Salt
  • 2 cups Wheat flour
  • Oil, for frying pooris
  • Water, for kneading

Method

  • Grate the carrots and grind them to a paste in the mixer grinder jar by adding a little water.
  • Take wheat flour in a large bowl and add carrot paste, chilly powder and salt as per your requirement.
  • Mix these ingredients thoroughly in the dry form.
  • Take some water and make a smooth dough by adding water little by little to the above mix.
  • Knead the dough properly for 2 to 3 minutes. and let the kneaded dough rest for 15 minutes.
  • In the meantime, pour oil in a deep bottomed frying pan and heat it. The oil should be hot enough otherwise the pooris will not puff up.
  • Next, divide the dough into small lemon sized balls and roll them to a circle of about 2.5-3 inches diameter with the help of a rolling pin.
  • When the oil is hot enough in the pan, put the rolled pooris into the hot oil and deep fry it to make pooris.
  • Allow the pooris to puff up and flip to the other side and fry again.
  • Continue to deep fry until all the dough is used up and pooris are made.
  • Enjoy hot pooris with chickpea curry or potato masala.
