Ragi semiya payasam is a variation of the traditional semiya payasam. This is a quick, nutritious and healthy payasam and you require no expertise to make this dish. My children love payasam of any kind, be it made with milk and sugar or coconut milk and jaggery. In this payasam, I have used milk and I have sweetened it with jaggery. You can try this payasam with condensed milk or almond milk also. This payasam will be loved by kids also who refuse to take ragi.
Now, let’s start….
Ingredients
- 1 cup Ragi semiya
- 2 cups Milk
- Jaggery/ Sugar, as per sweetness required
- 1 tbsp. Ghee
- 1 tsp. Cardamom powder
- Nuts and raisins to garnish
Method
- First boil the milk and continue to simmer for about 5 minutes.
- In a thick bottomed vessel, lightly roast ragi semiya with ghee. Make sure the semiya doesn’t get burned.
- Add the boiled milk to the roasted semiya.
- Keep stirring continuously to stop the semiya from sticking. Cook the semiya in the milk.
- Again add the desired amount of sugar/jaggery to your taste.
- Next turn off the flame and add cardamom powder.
- Roast the nuts and raisins in ghee.
- Garnish payasam with roasted nuts and raisins.
- Serve warm or cold!!
